Tiffen launches a self-raising monopod – the Steadicam Air

The Steadicam Air is a lightweight carbon fibre monopod designed to take some of the strain and shake out of using long lenses or video equipment. But where most monopods require somewhat time-consuming manual height adjustments using clamps, the Steadicam Air offers near-instant height adjustments. You press the rubberised foot pedal and release it when you’ve got the height you want.

This should make the Steadicam Air much faster to use than regular monopods on uneven ground, for shooting at different heights (crouching or standing) and when swapping from one user to another.

Starting out with a 25lb weight capacity, a 15lb configuration will follow shortly. The Steadicam Air weighs 3.5lb and comes in three sections, including one twist leg lock that allows 360 degrees rotation. It comes with a carry bag and shoulder strap.

Steadicam is a division of Tiffen, maker of professional filters and cinematography accessories, Dfx software and Domke bags.
