Samyang may have started out with specialised low-cost manual focus prime lenses, but now it’s moving into mainstream photography with a series of autofocus lenses for top camera brands. The latest is the AF 85mm f/1.4 EF for Canon full frame DSLRs. It will fit Canon’s APS-C models, where it offers an equivalent focal length […]
Canon EF mount: This is the lens mount used by full frame Canon DSLRs. You can also use EF lenses on Canon's APS-C cameras, though you need to apply a crop factor of 1.6x to get their effective focal length on these cameras – so a 50mm lens will effectively look like an 80mm lens on the smaller format. It doesn't work the other way round. Canon's APS-C DSLR also have their own EF-S mount lenses, but you can't use these on full frame Canons (a) because they don't produce an image large enough to fill a full frame sensor and (b) they physically don't fit.

The constant maximum aperture helps low light shooting and creative background blur. The f/2.8 is popular with pros while the f/4.0 versions is more affordable for amateurs. Both […]

This lens’s longer focal length means you can shoot with longer working distances, which is […]
First came excitement, then bewilderment, then despair… and then it was back to excitement again.
The Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra-Macro Lens looks like nothing on earth.
Tamron’s mid-range constant aperture telephoto zoom goes further than the rest (10mm further, to be exact).
No autofocus but great looks and the promise of high-quality optical performance for full-frame Canon DSLRs – and at an affordable price.
