This has become a kind of universally accepted term for compact cameras with long zoom ranges. They're not quite like bridge cameras because they can still fit in a jacket pocket when they're turned off, but their long zoom range gives them a similar kind of do-it-all versatility. Small enough for a pocket + wide zoom range = 'travel camera'. They're OK for the job, but the (typically) small sensors and long zooms limit the image quality.
