Calibrite ColorChecker Passport Video 2 released
Calibrite has launched a new ColorChecker target for both photographic use and video. The ColorChecker Passport Video 2 is designed for use with vectorscopes when shooting or in post production. It includes a 24 patch target for one-click color correction in the DaVinci Resolve video editor, but can also be used to create profiles for stills cameras with Calibrite’s Camera Calibration software.
DJI Pocket 3 announced
DJI has announced the Pocket 3, the latest version of its handheld gimbal camera. Small enough to fit in a pocket, hence the name, the Pocket 3 has a larger 1-inch sensor, extended filming modes and a unique swivelling LCD screen for both horizontal and vertical video.
Megapixels vs image size, and why we don’t always get what we think
When cameras come with a hike in resolution, we think about image size gains in megapixels or percentages, but actual image dimensions follow the inverse square law, so that if resolution increases by 37.5%, as in the case of the new Sony A7C II vs the existing A7C, the actual image width and height only increase by 17%.
The long goodbye of the Canon EOS M system
It’s been predicted since the launch of the Canon EOS R system and its APS-C models, but now Digital Camera World reports that the EOS M system is officially discontinued by Canon Japan. It’s still listed on some regional Canon websites, but it’s surely only a question of time before stocks finally dry up.
Leica Super-Vario-Elmarit-SL 14-24 f/2.8, Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2
These two new lenses are for Leica’s SL full frame mirrorless cameras. One is a constant-aperture 14-24mm ultra-wide zoom and the other is a fast 21mm prime lens. Both use the L-mount shared by Sigma and Panasonic Lumix S cameras.

Sony celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Alpha 7
It is indeed ten years since Sony launched the original Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R, and since then we’ve seen an avalanche of new A7 models and spin-offs. From being a pioneer in mirrorless camera development, Sony has gone on to dominate the full frame mirrorless camera market – though Canon, Nikon and Panasonic might have something to say about that.
Panasonic Lumix S5 II and S5 IIx firmware updates available October 24
Panasonic has announced firmware updates for the Lumix S5 II and S5 IIx which will be available from October 24. The update brings the same new features to both cameras, but the firmware version numbers are different – this is Firmware Version 2.2 for the Lumix S5 II and Firmware Version 1.3 for the S5 IIx.
