It’s an easy mistake to make because of the shape. This is a RØDE VideoMic GO II which is designed to be used on or off-camera and when you remove the foam cover you can see it’s a short metal tube. It looks a lot like a RØDE shotgun mic like the NTG series, just a little shorter. But it’s not a shotgun mic.

RØDE releases the NT-USB+ ‘next generation’ desktop USB mic
This is the sort of mic you would put on a desktop for YouTube videos or podcasts, or on a stand for music performances or speeches. It connects digitally to a computer via USB, as opposed to camera mics which typically use analog 3.5mm jacks.
RØDE VideoMic Me-L review
Verdict: 4 stars The RØDE VideoMic Me-L is a brilliant little clip-on shotgun Mic for smartphones, but there are some niggles which are more to do with the design concept than the way it’s made. It works great, but be aware it might not always be convenient.
